Dental Care You Can Trust

Dr. Jesse A. Grimm, DDS and his staff provide patients with a wide range of personalized cosmetic and general dental services to help patients achieve the beautiful smile they deserve. Dr. Grimm has the expertise and knowledge needed to provide every patient with the care they deserve. With a warm and welcoming environment, our patients feel comfortable and can ask any questions they may have about their dental treatment.

Dental services we provide include, but are not limited to:

Teeth Cleaning

Patients should be seen for a hygiene care appointment and periodic exam every 6 months or as recommended by Dr. Grimm. At the dental cleaning, both plaque and calculus will be removed from the patient's teeth leaving behind a clean, polished smile. Our team may also need to take x-rays to help detect any developing cavities in between teeth that cannot be seen by the eyes alone.

Periodontal Disease

Patients suffering from periodontal disease may not even know they have it. Signs of periodontal disease include red, swollen, and bleeding gums. Studies have found that there is a link between periodontal disease and major medical issues, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and pregnancy risks. Other research has found that periodontal disease can actually shorten a person's life expectancy by 7 to 10 years. Treatment for periodontal disease varies depending on how severe the disease has grown. Advanced stages of periodontal disease require an anesthetic and deep scaling and root-planing, followed up with more frequent dental cleaning appointments.

This is also why routine dental cleanings are so important, so early stages of the disease (gingivitis) can be easily corrected and cleaned away. In instances where the disease has really become advanced, a Periodontist (gum and bone specialist) may be referred to the patient.

Crowns & Bridges

When a patient has a tooth that has been severely damaged or has suffered from advanced decay and the tooth can no longer be saved with bonded filling material, then a crown is necessary. Crowns are designed to cover the patient's remaining tooth and restore it back to a normal, esthetically pleasing smile. There are a variety of options for crown material, including non-metal crowns. Dr. Grimm will discuss your options one-on-one with you should you need to receive a crown.

When tooth loss happens due to gum disease, decay, or injury; bridges become necessary. If you have lost a tooth or several teeth, it is important that you get it corrected to avoid the remaining teeth from shifting in your mouth. If the remaining teeth begin to move it can cause pain and discomfort. Bridges completed by Dr. Jesse Grimm look and act like natural teeth and are permanently cemented into the patient's mouth. The bridge restoration will also help keep the other teeth from moving around.

Veneers are thin porcelain/ceramic or composite restoration that are applied and bonded to the front of your existing tooth structure. Porcelain veneers are an excellent choice for correcting gaps between teeth or discoloration from failing fillings or stained enamel.

When applied to the tooth, a veneer is virtually undetectable. Due to its thin nature, the veneer will allow us to be quite conservative in removing tooth structure. With proper design, veneers are beautiful, long lasting, and resistant to stain from tea, coffee and red wine.

Endodontic Therapy (Root Canals)

Root canal therapy is needed when a cavity has reached the pulp of a tooth causing an infection of the nerve, or when severe trauma has affected the tooth. A regular checkup with your dentist helps to avoid and prevent the need for endodontic therapy. But once the pulp has become infected, it must be treated to avoid further issues since it cannot heal by itself. Some signs that a pulp is infected include sensitivity to hot or cold foods or liquids, pain, swelling, or even a bad taste in the mouth. For some patients no symptoms are obvious and they are unaware a problem even exists until they are seen by their dentist for an exam.

When endodontic therapy is performed, your dentist will clean out the infected pulp, and disinfect the canals of the tooth. Once the area has been disinfected, the canals of the tooth are filled with a special material to prevent from further infections, and help in the healing of the tooth. Sometimes a core build-up, bonded post, and crown are necessary for restoring a tooth to function.

Dental Implants

General Dentistry Kernersville, NC

Dental implants are a great alternative to traditional bridgework, and dentures. They are safe and look and feel just like natural teeth. Implants are permanently anchored into the patient's jawbone and no preparation of adjacent teeth is required.

It is important to replace missing teeth, because if left with spaces, your teeth can shift and cause a variety of other dental and medical problems. Our office has extensive experience in treatment planning and designing implant solutions that are custom tailored for each individual patient. Implants do require several visits and can take months to complete.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep Apnea is a common sleep disorder in which an individual has one or more pauses in breathing during their sleep. Usually a chronic condition, breathing pauses can last from seconds to several minutes. It’s often undiagnosed because it can’t be detected during a routine office visit and only happens during sleep. The most common form of this sleep disorder is obstructive sleep apnea, where the airway collapses causing shallow breathing and pauses in breath. We work closely with a Sleep Physician Specialist and we offer home sleep studies to ensure the proper diagnosis. We will also work with you to find your medical insurance coverage for assistance with this type of treatment.

Jesse A. Grimm DDS specializes in dental sleep medicine and can help you with a treatment called, oral appliance therapy. This treatment type uses a mouth guard that is custom fitted to your specific mouth. This oral appliance helps bring the jaw forward to open the airways while you sleep, allowing more oxygen to pass through. Contact us today if you suffer from snoring or have been diagnosed with sleep apnea so we can help you get a better night’s sleep.

Digital X-Rays

Digital radiography (digital x-ray) is the latest technology used to take dental x-rays. This technique uses an electronic sensor (instead of x-ray film) that captures and stores the digital image on a computer. This image can be instantly viewed and enlarged helping the dentist and dental hygienist detect problems easier. Digital x-rays reduce radiation 80-90% compared to the already low exposure of traditional dental x-rays.

Dental x-rays are essential, preventive, diagnostic tools that provide valuable information not visible during a regular dental exam. Dentists and dental hygienists use this information to safely and accurately detect hidden dental abnormalities and complete an accurate treatment plan. Without x-rays, problem areas may go undetected.

TDEXIS CariVu™ is a compact, portable device designed to identify carious lesions and cracks. By hugging the tooth and bathing it in safe, near-infrared light, CariVu’s technology makes the tooth enamel appear transparent while porous lesions absorb the light. This allows the doctor to see through the tooth and accurately detect any carious lesions, which appear as dark areas.

Through the use of DEXIS CariVu™, our practice can confidently determine whether a lesion or crack requires continual monitoring or immediate treatment. This device can show conditions through stages and when used together, a radiograph, a transilluminated image and an intra-oral photo provide a comprehensive picture of the health of a patient’s tooth.

Intraoral Cameras

These are small diameter cameras that can be easily and comfortably inserted into the mouth to allow patients to get a similar view to what Dr. Grimm sees. Discolored, worn, fractured and broken areas can be viewed by the patient and allows them to make more informed decisions regarding their own dental care.

Telescopic Loupes

During many of the procedures Dr. Grimm performs, he may wear a pair of funny looking glasses known as “telescopic loupes.” These powerful glasses have magnifiers on them that allow Dr. Grimm to see fine details in a patient's mouth that may have otherwise gone unnoticed by the naked eye. These glasses are identical to the glasses used in microsurgical producers.

DentalVibe is a small, handheld wand that uses vibration to stop pain caused by injections. The vibrations provide counter-stimulation to the sensation produced by anesthetic placement. Even for patients that are not afraid of needles and shots, DentalVibe allows the skin to absorb and spread local anesthetic more efficiently.

Benefits of the DentalVibe:

  • No pills or drugs to make you sleepy
  • It's completely safe
  • Less anesthetic used
  • Quick anesthetic delivery
  • Extremely gentle, so the patient doesn't feel pain

Digital Endodontic Handpiece

During a root canal treatment, Dr. Grimm uses a special digital endodontic handpiece. This handpiece makes the process faster and allows Dr. Grimm to perform the procedure with greater ease. There are many advantages that come with using a digital handpiece for root canal therapy, including:

  • Much quieter than traditional root canal technology. Less noise means our patients won't be irritated by annoying grinding noises during the procedure.
  • Provides a low level of vibration allowing our patients to remain comfortable during the appointment.
  • Since the dentist will have better precision while using the handpiece, it will also improve their tooth preparation skills.
